There are no refugees, no displaced persons here, they are our guests and we treat them as such - Mike Turner, Author

RAMFEL is the Refugee and Migrant Forum of East London. Originally established in 1992 as Redbridge Refugee Forum, in 2007 we changed our name to better reflect our work across London, and also to develop new services for migrants. We are a not for profit organisation working towards eliminating discrimination and disadvantage.

Vision

RAMFEL would like to see a society rid of discrimination and disadvantage, and with a positive attitude to the inclusion of asylum seekers, migrants, refugees and BAME (Black Asian Minority Ethnic) individuals and communities.

Mission

To provide high quality and effective advice, support and advocacy services to asylum seekers, migrants , refugees and BAME communities to enable them to make a positive contribution to their local community.

RAMFEL has four strategic priorities:

  1. The provision of high quality generalist and specialist ADVICE SERVICES to BAMER (Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic and Refugee) individuals and communities.
  2. The provision of COMMUNITY BASED SUPPORT SERVICES to BAMER individuals and communities (including capacity building for new and emerging groups).
  3. The promotion of COMMUNITY COHESION to foster good community relations, encourage civic pride, and prevent social exclusion.
  4. The safeguarding of HUMAN RIGHTS for all communities.

We recognise that arriving and trying to settle in a new country can be a difficult and challenging experience. Even when lives are rebuilt - mistrust, prejudice, racism and discrimination can continue to seriously affect an individual's quality of life.

RAMFEL's approach is unique

With our unique front line legal advice service, and second tier role as a forum for supporting the development of and engagement with BAMER (Black Asian Minority Ethnic and Refugee) individuals, community and voluntary groups, we know first hand about the daily hardships and struggles faced by new and established communities.
