Help Us

There are two main ways to support our work, through either donating your time as a volunteer, or by making a financial or equivalent (ie food for our emergency food service, clothes, baby equipment, furniture) contribution to the organisation

RAMFEL could not continue to provide many of the services it does, without the support, commitment and hard work of so many volunteers. Whatever your skills and talent we can find a use for them.

We currently have vacancies in the following:

Administration – Helping on our busy reception desk, manning our switchboard, photocopying, writing letters, compiling mailouts.

Casework – To become a RAMFEL caseworker, you may be required to sit external examinations, and complete a regular portfolio of training in order to become an accredited advisor. Full training and support provided.

Consultation/Policy Development – We’re committed to constantly improving our services, and also making sure that asylum seekers, migrants and refugees are treated fairly and equally. If you are a creative and passionate individual, with a keen eye for attention to detail then there are many local and national projects that you may be able to help us with.

Children and Families – Our work with children and families is vital to making sure that we help families move out of poverty, and that we give asylum seeker, migrant and refugee children the best possible start in life. As well as providing casework support to individual families, volunteers working with children and families also help facilitate our young people's group.

Directors/Trustees – With a minimum commitment to attend one evening meeting every two months, RAMFEL trustees are the backbone of the organisation.

ESOL/Basic Skills teachers – With access to courses for asylum seekers being increasingly curtailed by a lack of public expenditure, we’re committed to ensuring that help is on hand for those wishing to becoming more self-sufficient.

Food distribution – Managing our non-financial donations by sorting out our clothes, food and goods service is a vital piece of work. Must be available every Thursday.

Working with women – RAMFEL has a number of specialist services for asylum seeker, migrant and refugee women, including a specialist domestic violence project. Owing to the nature of the tasks involved this position is only available to females.

Please note that for some positions, applicants may be required to complete a short test in English.

Like most charities we could always do with more money. All donations from members of the public go directly to pay for front-line services. Administration costs for the organisation are met by public sector funding, grant-making trusts and contracted work. RAMFEL is registered for GiftAid.

On line donations can be made via Charity Business, to whom 3% of each donation is paid as a handling charge.

But we appreciate that not everybody is able to contribute financially, so there are also other ways to help.

Non financial donations:

Food – non-perishable foods are always welcome for our emergency food service

Clothes – clothes, shoes, bags are all very useful for individuals who have nothing else

Furniture – in helping people set up their new home, we’re always on the look out for mattresses, beds, chairs, tables, sofas, old televisions
