Voluntary and Public Sector ProjectsPlaying a role in the wider community and voluntary sectorWe remain extremely critical of organisational development and capacity building approaches that view all migrant and refugee community organisations as underdeveloped, ill-equipped and lacking capacity. For us, asylum seeker, migrant and refugee individuals and community groups come with a wealth of ideas, experience, and enthusiasm, it is our aim to help best channel those talents to better serve the public good. BAN (Black and Minority Ethnic Advice Network)RAMFEL was one of the original members of the Black and Minority Ethnic Advice Network established by adviceuk in 2007. The network comprises of 40-plus BAMER (Black Asian Minority Ethnic and Refugee) organisations from across London providing information, advice and legal services to BAMER communities. Redbridge ChangeUpWhilst national agendas have pushed for a greater emphasis on integration at the individual level. Here at RAMFEL, we also believe that there needs to be a better acceptance and integration of refugee and migrant community organisations as ‘equal’ partners within local community and voluntary sector agendas. RAMFEL is a member of the Redbridge ChangeUp Consortium. In 2007 it was responsible for the writing the Consortium’s local business and strategic plans 2008-2014. RAMFEL is also a member of the East London ChangeUp Consortium Redbridge Children's Commissioning Steering GroupRAMFEL was between July 2008 and September 2009 Chair of the Redbridge Childrens Commissioning Steering Group. We resigned from the position in protest at the Trust's handling of Equalities issues. We strongly believe that organisations like RAMFEL need to be able to set an example of strong leadership. Whilst it has been suggested to us that we would be more effective in trying to encourage 'change from within', we believe on this occasion that the issues of concern warranted decesive and clear action. Redbridge Equalities ForumComing soon Redbridge New Arrivals ForumRedbridge New Arrivals Forum is a meeting for all those interested in and passionate about asylum seeker, migrant and refugee issues. Part campaigning, part information exchange, meetings will look at how changes in legislation and local community tensions can affect those new to the borough and from overseas, and what can be done to help support and develop positive community relations and ensure equal and fair access to services and support.
